South-East of Ireland, a good place to invest for a tech firm?

There seems to be great deal of support for companies relocating or expanding into South-East of Ireland. There is no one defining factor for this phenomenon, but rather a basket of advantages over Dublin, the capital of Ireland and by far the biggest city in the country by population and economic size. South-East has been called a fastest growing economy in Europe, not just Ireland. I believe that the region is incredibly benefiting from the fact that it is expanding its the educational foothold, by combining Carlow and Waterford Institutes of Technology to form a university with multiple campuses in the region. Upon writing this blog, I have dived more into the history of the region and future developments, primarily “South-East Regional Enterprise Plan to 2024” which began in 2022. The plan seeks to drive innovation, green growth and more. Waterford seems to be one of the key destinations for businesses to go to, and this is not for just technological companies.

Personally, when thinking about starting a business in the South-East, one problem immediately sticks out to me, it is the N25 road. I commute to SETU campus in Waterford daily, and over the last 3 years, there has been numerous road works taking place which take months at a time to complete. In my opinion businesses that would like to expand their reach beyond the South-East, for example in Cork. Those businesses have only a single choice of transporting goods or moving services along the N25. The region has seen significant growth in the last decade, yet the infrastructure is not there to support it.

What are your insights into the region, would you ever consider a place to start a business in the South-East of Ireland?

Thank you for reading.
