Cybersecurity for Small Businesses

Image
For any small business, reputation and trust with the local community is everything, that is the foundation on which the business was built in the first place. If this is compromised at any stage, it is incredibly difficult to recover. Any cyber-attack on a business can be devastating, especially if it is a small business, as they might not have the staff or capital to protect themselves with. Businesses that fall to victim to such attacks most often fail soon post the attack. The criminals involved in such attacks are often interested in sensitive information, primarily bank details, customer details, pricing strategies, product designs and processes.      Some key tips to protect your business from such attacks are to keep your antivirus software always updated, making sure that regular scans are performed and important files backed up regularly. Passwords are essential on every device today, ensuring that a strong password policy in the business i...

SEO for Small Businesses: How to Compete with Big Brands Online

Image
SEO stands for search engine optimization, essentially with conjunction with the right tactics, it improves the traffic to your business, pushes sales and makes you more competitive and attractive as a business. One of the most inexpensive and must-have ways to achieve this is to build a high-quality website that is functional and easy-to-use. This first impression will allow a potential customer to start browsing without the need to learn where things on the website are, as it should be set up in a way that is easy to navigate and comfortable to use.      Content creators have and still are using SEO to push their content out to as many viewers as possible, by using hashtags in their YouTube videos and Instagram posts, it ensures that a wide variety of individuals have an opportunity of the content appearing on their main page or as a suggestion by the algorithms.      As people are getting more and more impatient, and the physical brow...

Evolution of Internet Technologies: From Web 1.0 to Web 3.0

Image
Evolution of the Internet has been an incredibly fast ride, even though it began in 1990, it has come a long way. Most people have no idea what the difference is, as they assume that internet and web is the same thing, just used interchangeably, this is not true. Web is an actual page that you would read, or watch on, while the internet is the host through which you engage with the content. Imagine that the internet is a highway, while the web is the car.      What changed since the 1990, well, an incredible number of things. Firstly, the way that the content is presented, as the web 1.0 was primarily a read-only while web 3.0 today is read-write and interact. Some examples of this would be going from google or msn to bitcoin or Coinbase. The very first webs were coded using HTML and Java, it was primarily to provide content to the users, as time went on, this wasn't enough. This technology further developed into web 2.0 in 2006 at the start of so...

Cloud-Based Analytics for Small Businesses

Image
As we progress in a fast-moving world of business, we must accept the fact that the amount of data is greatly increasing each day. It varies from type to type of data in terms of what it is, what it is used for, is it statistical or informative and could be overwhelming when presented with just raw data. Analytics allows for these types of data to be transformed into simple to understand numbers, graphs and charts to allow for quick and simple understanding of what is happening within the business in terms of sales, stock or other.      For the purposes of this topic, I will only focus on the cloud-based analytics. The foundations for it are simple, the infrastructure is already existing somewhere in the world. By buying a license we are simply renting the physical infrastructure. With the purchase of a license, the business normally gets many more benefits included in the package such as online technical support, updates, error and bug patches....

SaaS ERP for SMEs

Image
If you are unsure of what the title of this blog means, you are most likely to be more familiar with the actual activities that are related to this topic. SaaS ERP for SMEs means “Software as a service” and “Enterprise resource planning” for “small to medium businesses”. In a nutshell, it is a software on a computer which simplifies many tasks of the businesses on a digital platform rather than having to go through hundreds of pages of paperwork, calls or emails to get the job done.      I have gained first-hand experience in the use of SaaS ERP in a fast-paced retail business environment on my work placement which I took upon last year, you can find out more about it my introduction blog . I firmly believe that use of ERP increases the efficiency of the business by a significant percentage, as it simplifies the task of ordering, processing, stock counts, accounting and more. Once everything is on a single platform, it makes it incredibly easy...

The rise of digital payments

Image
The choice of convenience is no longer feels like a choice, in todays world, the availability of mobile phones and the amount of functionality that is crammed into them is mind-blowing. The convenience of having the ability to pay with your phone or a watch on the go is great but could also be considered dangerous. You will never carry as much cash as you might have in your Revolut or your bank, therefore the ability to stop spending money like someone else is paying is the trap that most people have fallen into. In an article published by Lisa Vasic and Nigel Dobson, they said that in 2023 alone, there has been over 1.3 trillion global transactions that were digital, and this number is expected to grow to 2.3 trillion by 2027 .      How did this come to be, and how is it that in a span of 4 years, the number of digital transactions is to double? – one of the initial drivers of this change was Covid-19 . The implementation of digital payments sy...

South-East of Ireland, a good place to invest for a tech firm?

Image
There seems to be great deal of support for companies relocating or expanding into South-East of Ireland. There is no one defining factor for this phenomenon, but rather a basket of advantages over Dublin, the capital of Ireland and by far the biggest city in the country by population and economic size. South-East has been called a fastest growing economy in Europe, not just Ireland. I believe that the region is incredibly benefiting from the fact that it is expanding its the educational foothold, by combining Carlow and Waterford Institutes of Technology to form a university with multiple campuses in the region. Upon writing this blog, I have dived more into the history of the region and future developments, primarily “ South-East Regional Enterprise Plan to 2024 ” which began in 2022. The plan seeks to drive innovation, green growth and more. Waterford seems to be one of the key destinations for businesses to go to, and this is not for just technological co...
